A new community-created artwork celebrating journeys, connection and the heritage of Edge Hill Station will be unveiled on Saturday 26 September at 2pm.
The artwork has been developed by Metal Culture with the newly established Friends of Edge Hill Station and co-commissioned by Rocket: All Aboard and Metal.
Since June, the group has been meeting at Metal, based at Edge Hill Station, exploring the heritage of the station and the wider railways while sharing stories and conversations about community, connection and travel.
Through a series of creative sessions, the group explored different ideas, styles and approaches before working together to develop a collective artwork celebrating train travel, journeys and the importance of community. Local artist Mark Brogan then brought the different elements together to create the final design.
The group has also been supported by photographer Emma Case and BSL practitioner Lucy Cossins, helping to bring their conversations and ideas together in a playful new window mural for the station.
Edge Hill has a particularly important place in railway history. The station and surrounding railway landscape formed a key part of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, making it a fitting place for a new artwork connecting the railway’s past with the people and communities around it today.
The new mural will be unveiled at Metal, Edge Hill Station, at 2pm on Saturday 26 September, and everyone is invited to come along and celebrate with the group.
Light refreshments will be available, with vegetarian food served. Anyone with dietary or access requirements should let Metal know when booking.
