Caked in History Walking Tour

To celebrate Community Rail Week 2026, the Friends of Eccles Station and Patricroft Station groups, FRECCLES and FrOPS, are hosting Caked in History, a guided circular walking tour exploring the heritage of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway and the Bridgewater Canal.

Led by Blue Badge Tourist Guide Elizabeth Charnley, the walk takes in Eccles, Patricroft, Monton and Worsley, uncovering stories from the railway age while showcasing the work both station groups have carried out to improve the look and feel of their local stations.

The walk begins at Eccles Station at 12.25pm and continues from Patricroft Station at 1.00pm. The route lasts around three hours and follows mostly well-made paths, although there may be some mud, puddles, slopes and uneven ground along the way.

Whether you are a railway enthusiast, local history lover or simply fancy a good walk in the fresh air, this is a great opportunity to discover the stories hidden along one of the world’s most historic railway corridors. Caked in History Poster 2026
